Matt Mays is a Canadian indie rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, best known as the lead singer of Matt Mays & El Torpedo, a rock group rooted in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, with connections to New York City. Born on August 10, 1979, in Hamilton, Ontario, and raised in Nova Scotia, Mays began his career as a member of the Canadian indie band The Guthries before forming his own ensemble. Over the years, he has developed a signature sound blending alternative rock, roots, and heavy rock influences, often featuring guitar, harmonica, tenor saxophone, and keyboards. Known for his electrifying live performances and anthemic songwriting, Mays has released several albums, including Matt Mays (2002), Coyote (2012), Once Upon a Hell of a Time (2017), and Dog City (2020), earning recognition as one of Canada's premier modern rock artists.
