Event type: All Ages / LicensedS.C.E.N.E. Music Festival is back for a 16th year that will be bigger and better than ever! Taking place in downtown St. Catharines, Ontario on Sunday, June 26, 2011, Southern Ontario's coolest independent music festival will feature over 160 performers across multiple stages and venues.
S.C.E.N.E. is one of the largest annual, one-day, all-ages music festivals in Canada, and a premiere destination for showcasing quality independent music. The festival attracts over 6000 fans to downtown St. Catharines each year, and is a hotbed for up-and-coming musical talent across all genres, featuring both Canadian and international talent. Past S.C.E.N.E. performers have come from as far as Europe, Australia, the U.S., and beyond, to take part in the festival.
The first S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival, started back in 1995 by Cashmere, lead singer for now defunct Revenge of The Egg People, a very popular local act, as a way for local unsigned bands to get exposure. It has now become one of "THE" summer destinations for music fans. The S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival through its history has brought fans from all over Canada and the United States.
S.C.E.N.E. features over 180 bands on multiple stages and venues. Talent is comprised of national, international and local acts spanning a range of genres including pop, hip-hop, reggae, ska, celtic, country, folk, queer, punk, metal, funk, emo, and rock 'n' roll, that showcase the best and brightest stars.
Past performers include Bedouin Soundclash, City and Colour, Down With Webster, The Creepshow, Saint Alvia, Alexisonfire, Jason Collett (Broken Social Scene), The Midway State, Billy Talent, Arkells, Constantines, Lights, Teenage Head, illScarlett, Cancer Bats, Shad, Silverstein, and many of the best and brightest talents in independent music today.
Along with the music, the Market Square Pavilion hosts the festival Headquarters, offering a variety of activities, demos and merchandising from festival partners, vendors and local artisans.
