Heather Maxine Reisman OC, born August 28, 1948 in Montreal, is a Canadian business leader, author, and philanthropist best known as the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Indigo Books and Music, Canada's largest book and lifestyle retailer. With a background in social work from McGill University, Reisman began her career in consulting before moving into the corporate world, where her entrepreneurial vision reshaped Canadian book retailing. In 1997 she launched Indigo, which would later merge with Chapters, creating a cultural hub that combines books, lifestyle products, and experiences, all curated with her deep belief in the power of reading. She also co-founded Kobo, one of the world's leading e-reading platforms, further extending her impact on how people access stories and ideas. Beyond business, Reisman is recognized for her philanthropy, particularly through the HESEG Foundation, which provides scholarships for lone soldiers in Israel. In 2019, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for her contributions to business, culture, and society. Married to financier Gerald Schwartz, with whom she has four children, Reisman continues to champion literature, education, and innovation across Canada and beyond.
