David Jalbert, now Professor of Piano at the University of Ottawa, has taken his place as one of the very finest Canadian pianists of all time. He has played for us many times now, always in interesting programs (such as Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues and Bach's Goldberg Variations...). Now David returns with an amazing mix from the Paris of the between-wars period: Satie: Trois Valses Distinguées du Précieux Dégoûté [Three Distinguished Waltzes of a Jaded Dandy]; Poulenc: Mouvements Perpétuels, and Hommage à Édith Piaf; Satie: Gymnopédie No. 1; Poulenc : Les Soirées de Nazelles; Poulenc: Nocturnes (8); Stravinsky: Three Movements from Stravinsky's Pétrouchka (set by the composer for solo piano) Here's music ranging from charming through nostalgic through cynical and concluding with an astounding virtuoso giant from Stravinsky's magnificent ballet Petrouchka (which made the ballet dancer Nejinsky famous...)
Cutoff is Saturday, November 21, 2015 3:59 pm EST unless it sells out earlier.
