Hailing from Prince Edward Island, the award-winning Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys serve up old-time roots music and Western Swing with an energy level that practically yanks you out of your seat by the collar. Tom Power, host of CBC Radio 2’s Deep Roots, recently called the Rhythm Boys his "Best Discovery Band" at the 2012 East Coast Music Awards. If ever someone was deserving of the nickname "Crazy Legs", it just might be fiddler Gordie MacKeeman. His thrilling dance style combined with great bluegrass vocals, Peter Cann's blistering guitar solos, and the lively multi-instrumental talents of Thomas Webb and Mark Geddes set a new standard for musical skill and engaging - often jaw-dropping - stagecraft and showmanship. Mark Radcliffe of BBC Radio 2’s The Folk Show concurs: “Gordie and the Boys are great players, sharp songwriters, invigorating company…not to mention the nifty dancing. Frankly, what’s not to like?" The Rhythm Boys’ sophomore album, Pickin’ n Clickin’ (2013), was honoured with the 2014 East Coast Music Award for Roots Traditional Group Recording of the Year. Produced by Nathan Wiley, the work features rockabilly-inspired rhythms, upbeat reels, weighted laments and MacKeeman's stunning fiddle work. This refreshing mix of traditional-leaning ideas with modern influences makes Pickin’ n Clickin’ an absolute must-have for fans of Celtic, roots and bluegrass music. Stepping out in style on their new album, "Laugh, Dance & Sing" (2015) features 13 original songs and traditional tunes that excel in demonstrating the group’s infectious high-energy flair, crisp musicianship and rollicking rhythm and roots sound. The quartet rocks a signature style that infuses their love of traditional bluegrass and old-time roots music together to deliver an eclectic wardrobe of tunes that’s as unique and entertaining as they are. The band has performed to enthusiastic audiences at sold-out venues across Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Malaysia and Australia. Highlights includes a main stage date at England’s legendary Glastonbury Festival, as well as performances at The Woodford Folk Festival, WOMAD, and Celtic Connections.
Cutoff is Friday, April 22, 2016 3:59 pm EST unless it sells out earlier.
