Event type: All Ages / Licensed
Ann Arbor based songwriter and Michigan Emmy recipient Kitty Donohoe is not an Irish or Celtic singer, but she clearly draws from that part of her heritage, as well as her American roots, as an artist. Her latest album is The Irishman’s Daughter. ‘Kitty Donohoe is, like the title of the album, an Irishman’s daughter. On this recording she explores her roots and her relationship with Ireland, it’s lore, it’s wider culture and it’s music. She has a fine posse of players…and adds her guitar, cittern and piano to a number of tracks. Kitty is making a name for herself in Irish America and you can see why from the high quality of the work here.” - Irish Music Magazine
Besides playing many songs from her new album, Kitty will also feature several of her Christmas and seasonal favourites in this concert.
Iconic WFMT-Chicago folk DJ Rich Warren calls Kitty “far above and beyond most singer/songwriters.” She writes music that has been called “earthy, luminous and compelling” (The Weekender) and she’s been praised in the press equally for her voice, her musicality, and her songwriting. Sing Out!, one of the oldest and most respected folk music magazines in the industry, says that Kitty is “ one of the rare singer-songwriters to sensuously weave words and melody into a strong and mezmerizing fabric.”
Also, another fun part of the evening will be our annual Tacky Gift Exchange where everyone is encouraged to bring a wrapped present of something that they would like to re-gift to someone else(approx. value of $10). In addition, this concert is our annual food drive for the London Food Bank ... so please bring a non-perishable item ...it will be greatly appreciated by those in need.
