Kolonien is a young quartet from Sweden whose members include Anna Moeller (the daughter of legendary musician Ale Moeller), her cousins Arvid & Erik Rask, and family friend Mischa Grind. They grew up deeply embedded in their family musical traditions. As Kolonien, they reinvent their roots, both instrumentally and vocally with their rich Swedish harmonies. The band's name means “The cultivator and explorer of new grounds, a place to make things grow.” Since Kolonien formed in 2010 they have strived to live up to, and be guided by, the meaning of their name. As of yet the fight for a fair and sustainable world is far from won. But more importantly: it’s not yet lost either. They have been pursuing their music fueled by the vision of a united world, taking them on multiple tours in Europe and beyond. ”The most uplifting protest music I’ve ever heard.” - Lira Music Magazine
Kolonien have released two albums that both received awards at the Swedish Folk and World Music Awards. Also, one of Kolonien's offspring projects the Vaerldens Band – where they’ve gathered thirteen musicians from six countries - was nominated twice. For all of that they have been given five star reviews and quotes such as ”Sweden’s most exciting folk band” from the prestigious Songlines Magazine (UK).
