Charalambides founders Tom & Christina Carter follow a vision of iconoclastic music as transformative force. Touching on the outer limits of acid folk, psych rock, and improvisation, their sound remains uniquely personal & consistent. Since 1991, Charalambides has released many recordings on labels like Siltbreeze, Kranky & Wholly Other.
Despite Tom and Christina Carter’s prolific solo careers and numerous other projects, Charalambides has existed in an unbroken trajectory for over two-and-a-half decades, outlasting the genres that critics and other yardstick-makers have tried to cram them into. Their recent performances and recordings retain the directness and delicate menace that mark their early releases, even as they explore an interlocking musical telepathy honed by years of artistic collaboration.
KAPALI CARSI is the solo guise of Kevin Hainey, a long active member of the Toronto underground/noise scene, most notably as a member of the sorely missed free psych band Disguises. With Kapali Carsi, Hainey explores modified bass guitar generated tones and drones for extrasensory therapy.
STARGOON Formed to entertain hippies and named by a neural network programmed to create new paint colours, Stargoon is a reckless attempt to create spontaneous kosmische grooves. Founded by drummer Luca Capone (of The Night Shift on CJRU 1280 AM and psych-rockers Moonwood) and knob-twister/sound-synthesist Joe Strutt (citizen-archivist at the Mechanical Forest Sound blog as well as an ambient loop explorer with his Heraclitus Akimbo solo project), the group later expanded to incorporate two more members of Moonwood, including Matthew Fava (on SuperCollider/AUMI/human voice) and Jakob Rehlinger (on bass). The group's first physical release was a split tape with Moonwood, issued on Arachnidiscs in September 2017.
