Always one of the very best things about TV’s ORPHAN BLACK, actor Kristian Bruun gets a well-deserved showcase of his own in this engaging comedy about life, love and second chances by Toronto’s Shane Belcourt. Bruun takes the lead as Damon, a geologist who’s understandably down in the dumps to be living downstairs from his ex and her hunky new beau. Indeed, things are so lousy here on Earth, it’s no wonder that he’s trying to win a spot on an Elon Musk-style billionaire’s inaugural mission to Mars. But when he meets an oddball musician – played by Cara Gee, who shone just as hard on CBC’s STRANGE EMPIRE – Damon has a new reason to doubt the wisdom of his scheme even if his muse may have troubles that are just as bad as his own. An endearingly quirky follow-up to Belcourt’s award-winning 2007 debut TKARONTO, RED ROVER is a welcome reminder of the surprising pathways that may open up when we feel like we couldn’t be more stuck.
