The Kingston Canadian Film Festival presents MURMUR
Director: Heather Young
Featuring: Shan MacDonald, Andria Edwards
Runtime: 84 minutes
The subject of much acclaim and many awards at festivals such as TIFF, FIN Atlantic and Slamdance, this debut film by Halifax’s Heather Young blurs the line between feature and documentary in ways that are often startling and deeply moving. First-time actor Shan MacDonald gives an extraordinary performance as Donna, a Dartmouth woman who initially thrives in the new job she gets at an animal shelter as part of a probationary sentence. But Donna’s deeper troubles and longings are soon made all too clear by her increasingly questionable decisions. Using a quiet, subtle directorial style, Young relates her character’s story via a series of small moments that accumulate great emotional power.
To mark our 20th anniversary, we’re launching the Live the Experience Fund that will provide tickets for local schools and community groups to attend the Festival and live the experience first hand.
