The Kingston Canadian Film Festival presents BLACK CONFLUX
Director: Nicole Dorsey
Featuring: Ella Ballentine, Ryan McDonald, Olivia Scriven
Runtime: 100 minutes
Set in St. John’s in the late 1980s, Nicole Dorsey’s debut feature reveals the darker tensions and toxic undercurrents in the lives of two characters whose paths are fated to intersect. A 15-year-old girl with a troubled family life, Jackie (Ella Ballentine) tests the limits of her freedom alongside her wilder friends while teetering on the edge of adulthood. Elsewhere in town, the older but no less awkward Dennis (Ryan McDonald) struggles to cope with urges that threaten to overwhelm him. Together, their stories serve as a cautionary parable about abandonment and alienation, one that Dorsey presents with a potent blend of dreamy bewilderment and intensifying dread.
To mark our 20th anniversary, we’re launching the Live the Experience Fund that will provide tickets for local schools and community groups to attend the Festival and live the experience first hand.
