Some call it Alt-Country, Americana or Roots, but any way you shake it, Sean Burns is a Country music singer. The self-proclaimed head of Canada’s Honky-Tonk preservation society leans into tradition, proudly waves the flag of hardcore Honky-Tonk in a fashion unmatched by any of his peers nationally. From Fort St. John BC to St. John’s N.L and all points between, Sean has toured aggressively across Canada and into the United States performing no less than 125 shows a year for 10+ years. “This is not a hobby”, proclaims the Winnipeg-based Country music enthusiast.
You can find Sean passionately spinning tales of highways and heartbreaks in community halls, respectable “listening rooms” with expensive dinner menus, or any number of small-town taverns, dive bars, and shit holes. Servicing audiences of dancers, romancers, and loyal citizens of Country music, you’re guaranteed your money’s worth from an evening with this outfit. This is on full display in the bands 2020 release “A Honky-Tonkumentary Film”. This 20 minute mini-documentary features 3 full live song performances from the burning hot honky-tonkers and introducers the viewer to the to the group, the Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club, and explores the impact that this legendary venue has had on the band and community. Lo-Fi & Lonesome, the official soundtrack and companion piece to the film, was released on March 5, 2021 in CD & digital form.
Sean and the hard-driving group carry the torch of the Electric Honky-Tonk from the “Bakersfield-Sound” and are right at home on the fringes with their interpretations of classic and self-penned Truck-Drivin’ Country songs. Their music, designed to pair with a time in Country music that commercial radio has long since forgotten about. That enthusiasm and passion for traditional Honky Tonk & Country music is showcased weekly on CKUW 95.9 FM in Winnipeg as Sean hosts ‘Boots & Saddle’. Sean’s profile as country music radio host continues to grow with guest DJ slots on the burgeoning Gimme Country platform in 2020 & 2021.
