Come join us to learn how to Aramba!
Aramba is an exhilarating form of exercise that combines the vibrant energy of Arabic music with the high-intensity workout of Zumba. Initiated in 2017, Aramba invites participants to move to the rhythm of upbeat tunes while incorporating traditional tools like scarves, canes, and zills.
Whether you're a seasoned fitness enthusiast or new to exercise, Aramba offers a fun, inclusive atmosphere that will leave you energized and motivated. Expect to sweat, feel the burn, and be so immersed in the lively beats that you'll push beyond your limits without even realizing it.
No matter your energy level, age, or experience, this is a workout you won’t want to miss—come and discover what fun fitness truly means!
All fundraising events are by donation, pay-what-you-can ($10-30).
Give $20 for 20 years! Support the Majdi Bou-Matar Bursary
In June 2022, we tragically lost our visionary founding Artistic Director Majdi Bou-Matar. To continue his work, MT Space – in collaboration with his family – established a bursary in Majdi’s name. This was made possible by generous contributions from our community far and wide.
This fund is dedicated to offering financial support as well as a year-long mentorship from MT Space to a racialized, newcomer, immigrant, and emerging artist.
The inaugural winner was announced at the opening ceremonies of IMPACT23 in September 2023.
All proceeds from this workshop will go towards an endowment fund with Waterloo Region Community Foundation to keep the bursary sustainable for years to come. Support the bursary by donating $20 in celebration of MT Space’s 20 full years of theatrical work.
About the Instructor:
Dr. Rania Al-Hammoud is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Waterloo, recognized for her dedication not only to her academic work but also to culture, community, and movement. With a passion for preserving cultural heritage through physical activity, she founded Aramba in 2017—a unique form of Arabic-style Zumba that blends upbeat music with exercise.
In 2018, she expanded this initiative by collaborating with three volunteers to launch "Aramba Social Nights," an ongoing event in Kitchener that provides a welcoming space for people of all ages and genders to come together as a community.
Dr. Al-Hammoud’s leadership and enthusiasm have kept this event thriving, ensuring that the community continues to bond through shared movement and celebration.
