One of the breakout stars of Kim's Convenience, Andrea Bang brings great charm and sensitivity to her latest big-screen performance as a young woman who makes the impulsive decision to deviate from the path that everyone expects her to follow. While staying with her aunt in Tofino, supposedly preparing for medical school as her parents wish, Waverly makes a connection with lifeguard Blake (Robbie Amell) and discovers she might want something different. That Blake is coping with his own set of family pressures is just one wrinkle in this remarkably assured and immensely appealing romantic drama, an adaptation of the hit novel by Kate Marchant by writer-director Sherren Lee.
