For her latest documentary, director Shannon Walsh uses decidedly unconventional means to tell what is surely the grandest love story to be presented at KCFF this year. Mixing music-infused reenactments with eye-popping personal videos filmed during the two subjects’ incredible life together, Walsh’s film pays tribute to Alan and Adrianne, a couple who transformed their home in rural Illinois into a lavishly decorated castle that continues to stand as a testament to their love of artistic expression and their devotion to each other. Indeed, it’s a devotion so intense, it transcends even death. That’s why viewers may feel as awed and moved by the utterly unique people at the heart of the film as they are by the one-of-the-kind location that Walsh captures so vividly.
