Many of Quebec’s best film talents are at the top of their game in this riveting dramatization of events that rocked the province’s financial and political worlds in the mid-2000s. Maxime Giroux (The Great Darkened Days, KCFF18) delves deep into the case of a trust fund company that deceived regulators and bilked millions out of investors. This film also features the work of other KCFF favourites, screenwriter Simon Lavoie (The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches, KCFF17), and cinematographer Sara Mishara (Drunken Birds, KCFF22), whose other credits include this year’s VIKING. At the heart of the story is the complex dynamic between fast-talking fraudster Vincent Lacroix (François Arnaud) and Éric Asselin (Vincent-Guillaume Otis), a former government auditor who’s seduced by the allure of easy money. Of course, as he learns alongside NORBOURG’s viewers, easy money never stays easy for long.
