The Roots of Popular Music and The Evolution of Riffing
Alison Crockett is an award-winning soul, jazz, and R&B singer, songwriter, and recording artist who has toured the world. She is currently an Adjust Associate Professor of Contemporary Commercial Voice at the esteemed CCM Institute at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia and a practising performer, clinician, and teacher in Washington, DC. She is the creator of BAM: Teaching the Tools of Black American Vocal Music.
Attendees will get a taste of Alison's BAM course outlining the connection between gospel and current popular music. She'll also delve into the building blocks and emotional impetus for riffing and improvisation in pop, rock, R&B, jazz, and more. The event engages, educates, and entertains. Alison will talk about the styles and demonstrate them with the help of a band. Don't miss it!
