FRED MOTEN & BRANDON LOPEZ (soundcloud)
Fred Moten is an American cultural theorist, poet, and scholar whose work explores critical theory, black studies, and performance studies. Brandon Lopez is a Puerto Rican/American composer and double bassist whose work deals with improvisation. Together their duo for voice / poetry & upright bass flows like meandering currents going to & from the Mississippi. Full of the vibrating energy of embarking on a journey, but guided by the knowledge and perspective to keep it working in their favour. Brandon’s minimalistic bass explorations are scattered with subtle variations, as Fred’s methodical delivery weaves amongst the notes. His words land with a sense of calm poignancy.
LEE & GAMBLE UNLIMITED (lee instagram / gamble instagram)
Lee & Gamble Unlimited is a musical project from Dylan Gamble of Toronto-based psych band Hot Garbage and Sook-Yin Lee, multimedia artist, filmmaker, musician, actor, and broadcaster. They improvise with a free jazz spirit and weird world intensity.
ROA LEE (youtube)
Roa (HyunYoung) Lee is a Gayageum musician and composer from Korea. Interested in collaboration and incorporating the Gayageum with various music genres, this desire led her to a multi-cultural city, Toronto. Her music is based on traditional Korean music and also integrates different elements from world music. A passionate explorer of fusion and new music, she has performed and collaborated with Emerging Young Artists, the Aga Khan Museum, Small World Music, Four Season Center, Harbourfront Music Garden, Korean Traditional Music Association of Canada, and many municipal orchestras, among other organizations.
