Strata Vocal Ensemble is thrilled to be performing again! We have called our first post-pandemic concert “How Can I Keep from Singing,” showcasing the joy we feel in making music together again. In addition to featuring two beautiful arrangements of that timely piece, by Christine Davis and Sarah Quartel, our program opens with Stephanie Martin’s simple but enchanting “Alleluia” and includes a number of favourites, both old and new.
In memory of longtime Strata supporter and friend Ray Hobbs, we will perform Ola Gjeilo’s “Ubi Caritas” (“Where charity and love are”), as well as two other settings of that text by Maurice Duruflé and Audrey Snyder. Also in memory of Ray we will sing “Lux Aeterna,” a choral setting of Elgar’s Nimrod from his Enigma Variations.
The program features sets by Stanford, Randall Thompson, and Vaughan Williams, Strata favourites “My spirit Sang all Day” by Finzi, and the rousing “Psalmo 150” by Brazilian composer Ernani Aguiar, as well as an arrangement of Stephen Smith’s “We Rise Again,” popularized by Canada’s Rankin Family.
Join us as we welcome our new conductor, Philip Sarabura, for an afternoon to celebrate the joy of singing!
Please note the choir is fully vaccinated for Covid-19 and so will not be masked. Masking for audience is strongly encouraged.
Cutoff is Sunday, November 27, 2022 12:29 pm EST unless it sells out earlier.
