In the words of Gabriel Fauré, “Art and music especially consists of raising ourselves as high as possible above that which is.”
Come and be uplifted by an afternoon of heartwarming music as Strata Vocal Ensemble presents “Postcards from Europe.” Relive the sounds of the Renaissance as we sing Hassler’s “Tanzen und Springen”, Palestrina’s “Sicut Cervus”, and “Ego Flos Campi” by Jacobus Clemens non Papa. From Lichtenstein comes Josef Rheinberger’s “Aus den Alpen,” and we visit the Czech Republic with Dvorak’s “Songs of Nature.” From Austria, we sing composer Anton Bruckner’s “Virga Jesse”. And we couldn’t forget J. S. Bach! His famous motet “Lobet Den Herrn” rounds out the program.
We will inspire you with the gorgeous strains of the lovely, haunting “Deer’s Cry” by Estonia’s Arvo Paert, then we stroll through France as we sing Fauré’s gem “Cantique de Jean Racine” and Debussy’s “Trois Chansons.” We visit Slovenia with Makor’s “O Lux Beata Trinitas” and from Lithuania comes “O Sacrum Convivium” by Miškinis. And finally, we pay tribute to sunny Italy with Monteverdi’s joyous “Beatus Vir.”
