Queen’s alumnus Molly McGlynn secures her rep as one of the country's boldest and sharpest new writer-directors with this sophomore feature that continually subverts teen-movie conventions. Maddie Ziegler stars as Lindy, a 16-year-old who's just beginning to assert her identity as a young woman when she receives a devastating diagnosis. Lindy's efforts to adjust to her new reality compound the complications she's already facing as a teenager trying to survive the treacherous waters of high school. Drawing from her own experiences and benefiting from an exemplary ensemble cast – which includes Emily Hampshire of Schitt's Creek as Lindy's mom Rita – McGlynn delivers a frank, deeply felt and often very funny coming-of-age tale. The jury at the most recent Vancouver film festival certainly agreed, awarding the film its prize for Best Canadian Film.
